Obituary for Clarice Victoria Wills

Clarice Victoria Wills was born in Guyana (British Guiana), South America to the late Arthur and Kathleen Fraser on January 25, 1918. She grew up in New Amsterdam where she attended primary school and went on to study at the Carnegie Trade School for Women where she excelled in home economics.

From there she went to work in the Sewing Room at Berbice Hospital where she met and fell in love with Jacob Wills. They were married on September 18, 1948. In the following years they were blessed with the first four of six children while in Guyana.

They then relocated to the United States, Jacob going before and Clarice following a year later with the children. While in the United States, they were blessed with 2 more to finish up the Wills family.

Clarice worked briefly as an aide in the New York City public schools. She was a great homemaker to her family, an excellent cook and avid gardener well into her nineties. She was also an exceptional seamstress making many of her own garments as well as clothes for the children.

Clarice was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church (Grace Lutheran in Queens Village and Trinity Lutheran of Locust Manor) where she sang in the choir, belonged to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Evangelism Committee. Anyone that knew Clarice, knew that God was the center of her life and that she had instilled that same belief in children. It wouldn’t be unusual to hear her singing a hymn or sharing a passage from the bible if you came to visit.

She was predeceased by her husband Jacob and youngest son Robert.

Clarice Victoria leaves to mourn, in her passing, her children Harrington Wills, Megan (Ivan) Llewellyn, Rosemary Wills, Brenda Dennis and Beverly (William) Johnson; her four grandchildren Janine Truitt, Anthony Dennis, Lauren Altagracia and Alyssa Omer; thirteen great-grandchildren, one sister (Daphne Fraser), and a host of loving relatives and friends.
